First, let's be clear on the importance of BDS. In order for your radio spins to count, they need to be BDS registered. Radio stations won't even consider putting you in regular rotation unless this is done first.  And when it comes time to negotiate that deal, the labels will want to see your spins. That's the only way they have proof that the people are really hearing you, other than internet presence. OK, moving on...

Many artists ask me to register their songs for them with BDS. It's quite simple and can easily be done yourselves.

First, you have to send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . In the email, simply include your name, the name of your company/label, phone number, and email. Within a few days, they will respond via email with your login name and password.

To login, go to http://media.bdsrealtime.com. Once you're logged in, it takes you to your main dashboard.

To register a song, click SEND MEDIA. A separate box will pop up where you will need to upload the track/tracks you wish to encode. At the bottom left of that window, click UPLOAD MP3 FILES. In that same area, it has a RIP FROM CD & ADD MP3 TRACK option. Obviously, it's easier to upload the mp3 straight from your computer, so click ADD MP3 TRACK.

Once you've selected your file, fill in the artist name and song title boxes. Once you get back to that upload window, at the top it's going to ask you to enter a song title or album name, which can just be the title of the song if you have no plans on putting it on an album. Once you've done all that, click BEGIN in the bottom right corner.

Once it finishes uploading, it will take you back to your original dashboard.  It will ask you to review the track info and once you have, hit COMPLETE at the bottom of the window.

It usually takes a few days to encode, but you can go back at anytime and check the status.

See! Not too difficult right? But if you have any additional questions, hit the comment section and I gotcha :).

I have a question! I'm an independent artist and have no record label, is this information important or necessary? or can I just send the email with only my name, number and email? thank....

yeah I have no idea about that, I have no label and was wondering how to track my song, is that info necessary?
