Health and fitness is an important element of our lives that many of us forget to take seriously. It’s obvious that we pay attention to our health, that is if we want to live long. We also forget about how important it is to stay active and fit. Exercise is such a pertinent part of life; our agility, how we breathe, and again, it can add length to our lives. So how does it intertwine with hip hop? Easy.
1. You have to be in shape to perform. How are you gonna give a good performance full of energy if you’re huffin’ and puffin’ the whole time?
2. For most, the way you look as an artist is a part of the marketing plan. If you want to be attractive, make sure you’re in shape. Working out is essential.
3. While working out, there’s absolutely no better music to listen to other than hip hop. It’s motivating to no end.
4. Most exercise classes use hip hop music because nothing else will make you dance the way it does. You ever been to a club? You can’t help but burn calories and break a sweat, hip hop dancing is one of the most active dances you’ll ever see.
5. Most importantly, with all of the BS we deal with involving our culture, staying healthy overall is mandatory. Working out is a great way to deal with stress or anxiety, and staying away from foods that can cause problems in the long run. Black people are the leaders in heart disease and high blood pressure. Cutting down on foods that contribute to bad health is something we all need to take seriously.
