MikeyyAustin is an up and comer out of Lansing, Michigan that caught my attention earlier this year. His grind has been consistent, and the steady flow of work he’s been releasing continuously improves. His talent is dope, but what I really love about this artist is his involvement in our communities. He does implement conscious lyrics in his music, and after seeing some of his actions, and expressed beliefs, you can understand why. His lyrical abilities, matched with his work ethic and artistry make MikeyyAustin an artist officially on the rise. Read up on him below, and then stay tuned for more to come from the young star as the week goes by. Follow him on Twitter: @MikeyyAustin

MikeyyAustin is a 21 year-old hip-hop/soul artist and musician from Lansing, Michigan. His sound is reminiscent of the Soulaquerian era, combining hip-hop, soul, and live instrumentation. His music tells the story of discovery of ones-self, while dealing with culture, art, and community.
Mikeyy began performing at the age of 5 years-old, singing and rapping at local churches, school shows, and talent shows. At the age of 12, Mikeyy fell in love with instrumentation, picking up piano, and self-teaching guitar at the age of 14. His ability to hear and create sounds distinguished him at a early age.

Now, along with his music projects, Mikeyy is known for his memorable live performances. Backed by his band, The Happy Medium, each show is very special. “My shows aren’t meant for people to come and just watch. I want the audience to become one big family by the time the show concludes.” – MikeyyAustin

Mikeyy has decided to use his musical platform to leave an artistic impact in his community and in the lives of teens. In Dec of 2016, he began a monthly event called Reo Town Sessions, highlighting local artist, giving them a chance to display their work and interact with the community. This is not limited to musical artistic expressions. You will find photographers, dancers, singers, musicians, graphic designers, and more being highlighted.

From this monthly event, the Arts Matter campaign came about. Reo Town Sessions Raised $4,000 for four Lansing School District Seniors that are continuing their education in the arts. “It is common to see a lack of art programs in our public schools. We exist to provide resources, experiences for students, and support, all while sowing into the next generation of artistic leaders.” – MikeyyAustin (Reo Town Sessions)
This is all just the beginning of what’s in store for Mikeyy’s musical career and his involvement in communities.
