We live in a world where everyone has an opinion. Social media has made it easier than ever for any to throw their two cents into a conversation, even when they haven’t been asked about it. While this is useful for pushing the discourse, it also means your voice might get drowned out by those who are louder and more aggressive. For some, this can make them feel like their opinion, and therefore themselves, don’t hold any useful value, which puts you in a slump. This is not true though, even if it can be difficult to realize, so here are four tips to help you value yourself more.

Quit Comparing Yourself to Others

The first step towards valuing yourself more is to stop comparing yourself to other people. If you spend a lot of time on social media, this is difficult, as it feels like everybody is living their best life. However, you don’t see the Worst Bits. Instead, there are only highlights for the world to see. If you want to feel better about yourself, delete your social media and focus on yourself before anything else.

Appreciate Things More

You won’t be able to find your value if you don’t start to appreciate things more. People who always wish for more are never satisfied, so slow down and think of what you have and what you have achieved already. You can start small, looking at the roof over your head, your career, and even the bed you sleep in. Once you have learned to appreciate these, you can start looking elsewhere and be happy with what you have. Only then can you start wishing for more.

Embrace Healthy Relationships

Often, people don’t realize their relationships are not healthy. These are usually friendships or romantic entanglements that have history. You have been together for a while, so you don’t recognize toxic behavior. This could mean that you are getting stomped all over and taken advantage of. Rather than allow this to happen, remind yourself that you deserve more. You can speak to the people you know to change this or cut yourself off completely and find relationships that make you feel good about yourself. If you’re having trouble identifying healthy and unhealthy relationships, you may want to spend some time evaluating what they contribute to your life and how they make you feel. There are some relationships that will cause you heartache and pain but actually be meaningful in your life. If you’re having trouble understanding certain things that are happening to you, this blog, Selfendipity, can help you figure out what your relationships are doing to you and how you can respond to them. Embracing healthy relationships can help you feel good about yourself and your life and help you to value yourself more.

Do What You Want (Most of the Time)

You might be somebody who always does what they’re told. Maybe you aren’t confident making your own decisions, or perhaps you are unsure how people will react if you do something that seems different. Settling for other opinions won’t get you anywhere, though, so don’t be afraid to live the life you want and do what you want. If you need to change your wardrobe, go for it. If you’re concerned about signs of aging, consider Botox or other skin treatments. If anyone tries to make fun of them, remind them that it’s something you want to do, so their opinion doesn’t matter.

Self Love

You can’t expect other people to think you are valuable without first thinking about it yourself. Finding your path to self-love and looking for ways to value yourself more is a tricky road, and it’s not something you will achieve overnight. Like anything else that’s worth having in life, though, you must persevere if you want to see the results you need.
