A Guide To Finally Sticking To Your Health and Fitness Regime

Wanting to get fit and healthy is all well and good, but actually sticking to a regime is a different matter altogether. You might know what you need to do to reach your goals, but that doesn’t mean you’re actually going to stick to the habits that will help you to reach them. Let’s take a look at some advice that will help you to stick to your new regime, once and for all:

  1. Stack Your Habits

It’s not always about knowing what to do, it’s about building habits that help us to stick with it. Habits are everything, and many of us have habits that we repeat day in, day out. Some of them are good, some of them are neutral, and some of them are not so good. Make a list of your habits, the things you do every day. Next to this list, write what kind of habit it is. For instance, brushing your teeth and taking your vitamins are good habits. Smoking is a bad habit, as is snacking rather than eating balanced, complete meals. Be honest with yourself.

From here, you can perhaps figure out a way to cut back on the habits that are not good for you, and stack up more healthy habits. If you struggle to drink water, for example, stack up a pint of water with taking your vitamins. There, you have two habits helping you to reach your goals that you can always perform together to make them stick. Try reading James Clear’s Book ‘Automic Habits’ to help you make things stick.

  1. Work With A Reputable Coach

A reputable coach is an invaluable part of your journey – even coaches have coaches to keep them on track and help them to stay accountable! Somebody like Dr. Marvell Scott could help to give you advice that changes your life. Make sure you like their work by checking out their portfolio and their content. Do you resonate with them and like their style? Set up a consultation with them!

  1. Make Sure You Enjoy What You’re Doing

If you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you’re never going to stick to it. How can you make this journey better? Could you incorporate cardio that you actually like, such as walking or swimming? Could you make your training based around circuits, rather than heavy lifting? You can read up on the style of training that’s best until the cows come home, but at the end of the day, the best style for you is the one you’ll stick to.

  1. Track Your Progress and Celebrate

If you don’t track your progress, how will you know that you’re inching closer to your goals? If you’re like most people, you’ll think you’re not making any changes and you’ll give up! Change happens slowly and subtly, which is why consistency is key. Take pictures, take your measurements, and pay attention to how you feel. When you notice progress, celebrate! Treat yourself to a little gift, or do something nice for yourself. You deserve it.

5. Don’t Let Pain Get In Your Way

Lastly, you want to make sure that pain isn’t getting in the way of your progress. If you have a lingering injury, it’s critical to deal with it sooner rather than later, either by visiting a physio or chiropractor. Don’t let a stiff back, neck pain or trouble with your tendons derail your fitness goals. You can solve most problems with the right professional help.

Sticking to a fitness regime can be tough. You can’t rely on motivation to get you through, because we won’t always have it. It’s about building a habit and sticking the course!
