Aging is an inevitable part of human life; we will all get older as the years fly by if we are lucky anyway. What is not inevitable is succumbing to illness, infirmity, and significant cognitive decline.
Although you probably won’t be quite as healthy or quite as sharp when you get older, there are a number of habits you can implement now that will help you to age much better than average, including the following:
Diet and exercise
People who age well usually eat a healthy diet packed with nutritious whole foods, and they tend to exercise regularly too. Eating well not only helps your skin to age better, but it also feeds your body and gives it all the nutrients it needs to fight off illness and disease.
Exercising can help to maintain your figure as you grow older, but more importantly, it can maintain flexibility and bone density which means accidents and injuries are less likely to be an issue.
Hobbies
People who age well in terms of mental cognition tend to be active people who have lots of hobbies and interests. The better occupied you can keep your mind, the less likely you are to lose cognitive function and have memory issues as you get older.
If you ask any nursing home abuse lawyer, they will tell you that so many of the people they see are dementia patients who end up in care homes because they struggle to look after themselves, and because they are so challenging they end up being mistreated. Although there is no certainty you can avoid a similar fate, exercising your mind every day is definitely something that will lower your dementia and Alzheimer’s risk.
See the doctor
People who age well are fastidious when it comes to seeing the doctor and having regular physicals to check out how well they are doing, They never leave it for longer than necessary to see their doctor when they have a new symptom that needs to be looked at either.
The sooner an illness is diagnosed, the better the prognosis is and the more likely it is that the patient will be able to get through it without getting very frail. So, as you get older, make a point of seeing your physician more regularly and you will not regret it.
Get lots of sleep
It’s a bit of a cliche, but sleep really is one of the healthiest habits you can have. Sleeping between seven and nine hours a night will allow your body to get the rest and repair it needs to stay healthy physically mentally and even in terms of how good you look. If you want to keep wrinkles at bay and you want to feel good as you grow older, sleep more.
If you can incorporate these healthy habits of people who age well into your life each day, then you will stand a far better chance of aging well yourself, and your life will not only be longer, but healthier happier, and more joyous too.
