Head

The first thing that we’re going to look at is your head. When you get headaches, what do you do? Of course, most headaches aren’t serious, but if they are recurring, do you bother to get them checked out? Make some lifestyle changes such as cutting out certain foods and see if that improves the headaches. If this doesn’t work, and painkillers aren’t working anymore, then you need to book an appointment to see your doctor. There is no other option, even though some people like to just pretend that nothing is happening and it’s perfectly normal.

Well, it’s not normal to be experiencing frequent headaches. If you are, then you need to get checked out. It might be the case that there is a deeper issue at play, or it might simply be the case that your eyes are straining too much, meaning that you need glasses. But, too many people think that because headaches are common, that makes it okay which is not true at all.

Hearing

One of the most neglected areas of health is hearing. Do you know how many people don’t take care of their hearing health properly because they either don’t know how to, or simply don’t want to? A lot. There are a few things that you can do to protect your hearing, and it’s essential that you’re doing them as much as you can. An example of this would be if you are going to be heading to a music concert or festival. You should be wearing earplugs to drown out the extreme volume of the music. Due to the level of noise, you will still be able to hear over the earplugs, but there is less chance of damage to your hearing.

If you don’t take the right steps to look after your hearing, you will likely experience hearing loss prematurely in life. This might start with something like tinnitus as the nerves in your ear will be damaged, and then gradually worsen the older you get, to the point where you need hearing aids before you are older.

The other piece of advice that we have for you is that you should never put things in your ear. If you’re trying to clean them, stick to the outer bit of your ear, and make sure that you’re not pushing it too far in. You can damage your ears really easily, so you need to be super careful.

Oral

Your oral health is another one that a lot of people don’t take seriously. From the time that you are little, you are told to brush your teeth twice per day: once in the morning when you wake up, and once before you go to bed at night. This keeps your teeth nice and healthy, by ensuring that nothing is building up on them. But, what a lot of people don’t do is floss. Flossing is really good for your teeth and gums, even though it’s a little uncomfortable when you first start doing it. It helps to get the remnants of food from between your teeth so that they can’t rot there.

People might not take oral health seriously right now, but they will when they need dental operations simply because they didn’t do what they could. Or, if they start to experience pain in their mouth.

Things like smoking are also really bad for your oral health. If you smoke, drink high volumes of alcohol, or if you are sick constantly, all of this is bad for your teeth. Of course, the last one you might not be able to do anything about, but there are things to help stop that.

Feet

When you think of feet, you probably don’t sit there and think about your elaborate routine that you have to take care of your feet because most people don’t. The problem with this is that your feet are actually really vulnerable. They get put in shoes and socks, but they are used constantly, and as such need to be taken care of. Some people will see a podiatrist if they either have a condition that impacts their foot, or if they have an issue with their toenails/skin on their feet.

If you don’t have any issues with your feet right now, then now is the best time to start taking care of them. If you start to feel any hard skin on your heel, you can apply some cream to soften it back to its natural state. Or, you can file it off if it gets too bad for cream to help. The important thing is that you’re taking care of your feet before you ever need the help of a professional.

Eyesight

Eyesight is something that a lot of people take for granted. They think that because they can see just fine right now, they will never need to worry about it in the future. This, unfortunately, is not true: eyesight deteriorates over time, and this depends on how well you look after your eyes. For example, if you’re constantly staring at screens all day long without breaks, then this could cause strain on your eyes and make them worse.

Many people also don’t think about how their eyesight can affect them as they age. If you haven’t been taking care of your vision, then this could mean that you need a pair of glasses now – whereas if you had taken care of your eyes, you might not have needed to.

The first step in caring for your vision is ensuring your healthcare plan covers eye care. If you don’t have a healthcare plan, you need to speak to an insurance broker and get one that covers vision. Ok.Vision is an excellent company that your insurance broker can contact to ensure you get the best possible coverage for your vision.

If you have a healthcare plan, make sure you make the most of it by booking regular eye appointments. Most healthcare plans will cover a basic sight test every two years, but if you’re having any issues with your vision, you may need to see an optician more frequently.

Mental

The final thing that we’re going to be talking about is mental health. Mental health is one of those things that people still don’t want to talk about, but it needs to be talked about. There is nothing wrong with struggling with your mental health, and you need to be able to talk about this and to get help, rather than shutting it away, pretending it’s not an issue. A lot of people neglect their mental health because they have too much going on, or because they are afraid of what people will say if they know you’re finding it hard right now.

Everyone struggles at some point, whether they admit it or not. It’s braver to be able to say that you are struggling and admit that you need help, than it is to shut it away and pretend everything is okay. It takes a strong person to admit when they need help, and your mental health is not something that you should ever risk. The more you ignore it, the worse it’s going to get, and the worse you are going to feel. Eventually, you are going to snap and when that day comes who knows what is going to happen. We don’t want you to get to that point, and we’re sure that you don’t either, which is why you need to speak to someone about this, whether it’s your friends, family, or even a professional.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the common areas that people neglect when it comes to their health. The thing that you need to understand is that every area of health is super important, and you should be taking the time to look after all of them. There are going to be some days where you have to prioritize one over the other, but that doesn’t mean the other becomes less important, it just means it’s less important right now. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to take better care of your health going forward.
