Artist Of The Week @AdamReverie Answers 5 Questions About Hip Hop

To continue spotlighting Adam Reverie for the next week, or so, today he talks hip hop, and the independent grind. I asked Adam 5 questions all related to hip hop, and he gave awesome responses. Check out what he had to say below.

  1. At this current point, express your feelings about hip hop, the culture, and its influence.

I love Hip-Hop although I do believe there is a lack of integrity within the culture, much of what the culture was founded on isn’t recognize as much in Hip-Hop’s current state. Yet you can feel & see Hip-Hop’s influence around the world in what seems like everything.

  1. What’s missing in hip hop, that you will deliver?

I believe Hip-Hop is missing authenticity & individuality. Everyone is rapping about someone else’s life & point of view. We’re not all rich, everyone isn’t this ladies man that’s screwing someones significant other, everyone isn’t from the streets, everyone doesn’t have the bag, all wack rappers aren’t just rapping over trap beats & mumbling. Hip-Hop’s current narratives are tired because the narrators themselves don’t know who they are. I’m coming into this with a sound foundation of what it is I stand for and represent.

  2. Not your favorite, but name the top 5 rappers out now and why.

Kendrick, Drake, J. Cole, Jay-Z, Kanye West. The reason I say these artists are top 5 is that they are capable of selling out arenas by themselves & 2 of the 5 have proven time and time again that they can box in any era. Their albums are still selling, have cult followings, truly have star power not just a childish popularity for a summer or strip club anthem that is heavily streamed for the moment. They can actually drop albums and do numbers, these five have staying power and it’s been proven.

  1. What has been the biggest trial you’ve encountered while on your journey pursuing your career?

My biggest trial has been myself, learning to find a way or make one. I depended on so much on what I believed others could or would do and every time they’d fail me I’d become angry & want to get out of character instead of finally realizing I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Once I realized that things have been so much better for my career and numbers don’t lie. I just had to get out of my own way, to be honest.

  1. In one line, give the other independent artists some sound advice.

We can do this ourselves.
